Muharram is the first month of the Islamic year. The beginning of the Islamic year is celebrated all over the world with full religious fervor.
Islamic New Year is celebrated as the start of the new Islamic
year. This start of the year is also called (Ras ul Sunnah Al-Hijri). It is
also called as Hijri new year and Arabic new year. Muslims of the whole world
either they belong to Shia sect, or al-sunnah sect observed this month with a
lot of respect and love.
This year is started on the sunset of the last day of Dulhijah. And
this particular day ends on the sunset of the first day of Muharram. This is
the year of the immigration of Rasool e Khuda (S.A.W) from Makkah to Medina
with his companion, and this immigration is known as Hijrat in Islamic history.
The Muslims of the world
perform the religious obligations with more love, and divine spirit by the
start of new Islamic year like prayers, fasting, helping needy and poor with
Sadkaat.
The most important thing, Muslims of different countries arrange
their colanders by the start of the new Islamic year because the time of holly
events like Ramadan, Eid, pilgrimage is decided according to the new Islamic year.
Most of the Islamic countries of the world calculate their Islamic events
according to the astronomical calculation (according to the moon).
Is Islamic New Year a Holiday?
Some countries of the world celebrate the first year of new Islamic
year as a holiday, but it's not worldwide holiday which is celebrated by the
Muslims of the world. Islamic New Year is celebrated as a holiday in India,
Indonesia, Malaysia United Arbs Emirates.
Special deeds of Muharram/ Islamic New Year
The opening and closing time of different businesses and markets is
altered. Different sects, including Shia and sunnah Muslim, celebrate the start
of the new Islamic year according to their own culture and traditions.
Fasts are observed in different communities by the start of the new
Islamic year. Some people keeping on fasting till the Day of Ashura 10 of Muharram
in order to show their love with the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H).
In Iraq, Shia Muslim make a pilgrimage to the shrine of Hazrat Imam
Hussain (R.A). In Iraq, Afghanistan, sham, and Iran, Shia Muslims present Tazia,
condolence .in south Asia similar acts are performed which called as Soza,
Marisa, Noha, and Tabut.
Why is the name Muharram given to the first month of the new
Islamic year?
This Islamic year has 354 days and 12 months. The first month is
called Muharram. It is one of the four sacred months of the Islamic year.
This month is sacred because any kind of killing was prohibited and
banned in this holly month. Some a lot of important events were taken place
this month.

The pardon of Hazrat Adam (A.S) was accepted
in this month.

Ibrahim (A.S) was born in Muharram.
